The Ultimate Guide to Profhilo®
Share
Profhilo® has taken the aesthetics world by storm. This wonder treatment plumps and rejuvenates tired, dull, and ageing skin, giving you a luminous glow and completely natural-looking results. Profhilo® (the first of its kind) is essentially a hyaluronic acid (HA) moisturiser, which, when injected, works from within, providing long-lasting results and younger-looking skin. This is the ideal treatment for those over the age of 30, as this is when we start to lose a significant amount of collagen, elastin, and HA.
How Does Profhilo® Work?
Unlike other injectable treatments, Profhilo® is a moisturiser. It contains 100% synthetic hyaluronic acid (HA), and the ingredients work from deep within the skin to rehydrate and plump. This makes it far more effective than any topical moisturiser that contains HA. With one of the highest concentrations of HA currently available, it not only boosts and hydrates but can dramatically reduce fine lines and remodel sagging and ageing skin. It’s relatively painless, and the treatment involves two sessions a month apart.
What is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in the body that is responsible for maintaining moisture within our skin. Many skincare products contain this active ingredient. Profhilo® has been specially formulated to contain a unique level of synthetic HA, which helps to encourage the production of collagen and elastin in the skin. When injected, it stimulates the skin’s natural synthesis of collagen.
How Long Does Profhilo® Last?
Profhilo® lasts in the skin for around 28 days. During this time, the stimulation of four different types of collagen and elastin takes place by slowly releasing hyaluronic acid. Within the first few weeks, you will see intense hydration, glowing skin, and fine lines can disappear. Your skin will feel smoother and tighter.
How Often Should I Have Profhilo?
Profhilo is a skin booster, so to start with, you should have two treatments 4-6 weeks apart. Once you see your results, you could leave 4-6 months between each treatment after that.
What Areas Can Be Treated?
Profhilo® is most commonly used for facial areas, including the top of the cheeks, nasolabial fold (laughter lines), mouth, and chin. It can also effectively rejuvenate the neck, décolletage, arms, knees, and back of the hands. There are five injection sites on the face: upper cheek, nasal base, lower cheek, jawline, and chin.
How is Profhilo® Different from Dermal Fillers?
If you are looking to add volume to specific areas, dermal fillers would be the right treatment for you. Profhilo® is not a volumising treatment like dermal fillers and isn’t used to enhance specific areas of the face (e.g. lips and chin). The HA injected is dispersed evenly throughout the face, giving you an all-round plumped, firmer appearance.
Combining Treatments for Maximum Results
Profhilo® can be combined with other treatments to achieve maximum results. Talk to your practitioner in your free consultation about the best course of treatment for you.
Can I Drink Alcohol After Profhilo?
You should not drink any alcohol for at least 24 hours both before and after your Profhilo treatment, as it can impact your healing results.
Does Profhilo Hurt?
You have the option to apply numbing cream before your treatment, but generally, Profhilo is not a painful treatment. You may experience slight discomfort or stinging both during and for a day or so afterwards around the injection sites. The needle used is very small.
Profhilo Side Effects
Around the injection sites, you might experience ‘Profhilo lumps’, which look a little like small bee stings. This is common with any injectable treatment and should last 24-72 hours. Other normal side effects you could experience are redness, numbness, swelling, or bruising. If these last longer than 7-10 days, you should contact your practitioner.
