Dermalux LED light therapy: how it works and how many sessions you need
Share
LED light therapy is one of the most relaxing treatments we offer at our Hadleigh clinic. You lie back under a panel of clinical light for 30 minutes, and your skin does the work. But how does it actually work, and how many sessions do you need to see a difference? Here is an honest guide.
How Dermalux LED works
Dermalux uses specific wavelengths of light. Each one reaches a different depth in the skin and does a different job, so your session can be tailored to your concern.
- Red light stimulates collagen, helping soften fine lines and support firmer skin.
- Blue light targets acne-causing bacteria and calms inflammation.
- Near infrared reaches the deepest layers, helping the skin heal and strengthen.
There is no heat, no UV and nothing breaks the skin. Most people feel nothing at all, or a gentle warmth.
What it can help with
- Acne and breakouts, with blue light helping clear bacteria and calm inflamed spots
- Rosacea, redness and irritation, by helping reduce inflammation in sensitive, reactive skin
- Fine lines, with red light boosting collagen
- Uneven tone, supporting a more even complexion over a course
- Recovery after other treatments, such as chemical peels and microneedling
- Dull, tired skin, leaving it looking healthier with no downtime
It suits all skin types, including sensitive skin, which makes it a useful option when other treatments are too much for your skin right now.
How many sessions do you need?
This is the question we are asked most. Many people notice their skin looks brighter and calmer after a single session, but LED works best as a course.
- For a specific concern, such as acne or redness, the best results come from a course of around 8 to 12 sessions.
- To start, most people come 2 to 3 times a week, then reduce as the skin improves.
- For maintenance, a regular session helps keep skin calm and healthy once you have finished your course.
The exact number depends on your age, lifestyle and the concern you want to treat. Anna will suggest a plan that fits your skin and your diary.
What a session is like
- A quick consultation. Anna checks the treatment is right for you, including any medication that makes skin sensitive to light.
- Cleanse and prep. Your skin is cleansed so the light can work effectively.
- 30 minutes under the light. You simply relax under the Dermalux panel.
- Straight back to your day. There is no downtime, so you can carry on as normal.
Is it safe?
For most people, yes. LED light therapy uses no heat or UV and doesn't burn the skin. Some people notice slight redness or a warm feeling afterwards, which passes quickly. Some medications that make skin sensitive to light, and some health conditions, can make LED unsuitable, which is why Anna always checks first.
LED as part of a bigger plan
Dermalux works well on its own, but it is also a very good partner to other treatments. Every medical grade facial at The Cosmetic Club finishes with Dermalux LED, and it is often recommended alongside chemical peels and microneedling to support recovery.
If you want an hour to switch off, our Wellness Reset Ritual (£75, 75 minutes) combines a gentle cleanse, a tailored mask, 20 minutes of uninterrupted Dermalux LED, a heated blanket and a rosemary oil scalp ritual.
Price
- 30-minute Dermalux LED session: £45
- Wellness Reset Ritual: £75

All prices include VAT. Everyone's skin responds differently, so these are typical experiences rather than promises.
