Regenerative skin treatments: a nurse's guide to skin longevity
Share
"Regenerative" and "skin longevity" are everywhere at the moment. Strip away the buzzwords and the idea is simple. Regenerative treatments don't cover things up. They encourage your skin to repair and renew itself. Skin longevity means keeping your skin healthy and resilient for longer, rather than chasing a quick fix.
Here is what that means in practice, which treatments fit, and what you can do at home.
What does "regenerative" actually mean?
As we get older, skin makes less collagen and elastin, holds less water and repairs itself more slowly. Sun exposure speeds all of this up. Regenerative treatments work with your skin's own repair processes. They prompt it to make new collagen, strengthen its barrier and hold on to more moisture.
Because it is your own skin doing the work, results build gradually over weeks and look natural. What these treatments don't do is freeze movement or add volume. That is a different kind of treatment.
Regenerative treatments at The Cosmetic Club
Polynucleotides
Natural DNA fragments, injected into the skin, that support repair, hydration and collagen production. They are popular for tired under-eyes, as well as the face and neck. A course is 3 sessions, 4 weeks apart, from £185 per session, and results usually last 6 to 12 months. About polynucleotides or read polynucleotides explained.
Microneedling with Dermapen 4
Tiny, controlled punctures prompt your skin to repair itself, making fresh collagen and elastin as it heals. It is used for scarring, fine lines, enlarged-looking pores and uneven texture. Most people have 3 to 6 sessions, 4 to 6 weeks apart. From £120. About microneedling.
Profhilo skin boosters
A high concentration of hyaluronic acid that spreads through the skin, hydrating it and encouraging your own collagen and elastin. It doesn't add volume or change your features. A course is 2 sessions, 4 weeks apart, at £210 per session. About Profhilo.
Dermalux LED light therapy
No needles at all. Clinical wavelengths of light support collagen, calm inflammation and help skin recover, including after microneedling or a peel. A course works best, usually 8 to 12 sessions for a specific concern. £45 for a 30-minute session. About Dermalux LED.
Which one might suit you?
| If you want | Worth asking about |
|---|---|
| Brighter, more rested under-eyes | Polynucleotides |
| Smoother texture and softer scarring | Microneedling |
| Deep hydration and firmness, without added volume | Profhilo |
| Calmer skin and better recovery, with no needles | Dermalux LED |
This is a starting point, not a prescription. Many people do best with a combination, spaced so the skin has time to recover. Anna will check what suits your skin at your consultation.
Skin longevity starts at home
Treatments help, but the daily habits do most of the work over the years.
- SPF every day, all year. Sun damage is the biggest single cause of early skin ageing, and UVA reaches us on cloudy days and through windows.
- A retinoid, introduced slowly. Retinol encourages skin renewal and supports collagen. Start a couple of nights a week and build up. Our retinol guide explains how.
- Look after your skin barrier. A gentle cleanser and a moisturiser that suits your skin keep it strong, so it repairs better.
- Vitamin C in the morning. An antioxidant serum under your SPF helps protect against daily damage.
- The basics count. Sleep, not smoking and a balanced diet all show up in your skin.
What to expect
Regenerative treatments are not overnight fixes. Most are a course, followed by occasional maintenance sessions, and results keep building in the weeks after each one. Some treatments need to wait if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active skin infection, or take certain medicines. Anna will always tell you honestly if a treatment isn't right for you.
Where to start
If you are not sure which treatment is right for you, start with a Skin Consultation, Scan & Plan. It takes about 30 minutes, includes a Visagé Pro+ skin scan, costs £35, and you leave with a treatment and skincare plan. If you already know what you want, your consultation is included at the start of your treatment.
